Easy Victory Points
Always check your available missions for 'Keep' missions, which require you to keep a certain province for 5 years. These missions offer 20 victory points for success, and are generally much easier than the conquest, discovery or diplomatic missions.

Cheat Codes
When playing the game, press [F12] and a window will appear. Type one of the cheat codes below for the respective effect:

calvin: Enable Reformed religion.
columbus: All provinces explored.
cortez: Switch natives on and off.
cromwell: Increase infrastructure technology investment.
difrules: God mode.
drake: Increase naval technology investment.
gustavus: Increase land technology investment.
luther: Enable Protestantism.
montezuma: Increase treasury by 50,000 ducats.
oranje: +3 Stability.
pappenheim: Turn fog of war on and off.
polo: Increase trade technology investment.
shogun: Close Japan.
swift: Increase population of capital province.
trent: Council of Trent occurs.

Note: Pressing [F12] again will close the cheat window.
